That was pretty damn quick, no? The Samsung Galaxy Tab was just officially announced yesterday, yet it has already been rooted. Now users can take full advantage of all the root applications you’d like.
At this rate, we may see a custom recovery image in the near future to make way for some custom ROMs. Even with its heavily inflated rumored price tag, if the Galaxy Tab were to get a stock ROM installed on it, say, Cyanogen Mod 6, I’d be one happy camper and would likely take the plunge into buying one of these things. The TouchWiz UI that Samsung has implemented onto their Galaxy S devices is pretty lightweight, but with stock Android running on it, you could free up some of that extra RAM that’s needed to run the skin, making it just that much snappier. I’m getting ahead of myself, as the Tab has only been rooted at this point, but wishful thinking is a specialty of mine.
You can now add the Galaxy Tab to the pile of other devices rooted before the release, like the Nexus One, Evo 4G, and Epic 4G. We expect this trend to continue, and its a good feeling if you’re an eager Android modder who buys a brand new device and can immediately start hacking away. You can give all your thanks to Sera-Apps for giving the Tab root access, but we do question if the official version would support this root method, as they were using a work in progress prototype.
I’d say if it’s anything like the Captivate or Vibrant, we should be good to go, and will likely see a one-click root solution shortly afterward.
